Our impact starts with plastic, but it doesn't end there.
By creating value for ocean-bound plastic, #tide® supports its collection and recycling while contributing to better waste-management systems, local livelihoods and safer working conditions in coastal communities.
We combine environmental and social impact with traceability, independent certification and measurable results to understand and communicate the difference our activities make.
Recovering ocean-bound plastic can create benefits beyond cleaner coastlines. #tide® works with local partners to strengthen livelihoods, promote responsible working conditions and contribute to the resilience of coastal communities.
Plastic waste becomes a source of economic value. By creating demand for collected material and working with local collection partners, #tide® contributes to income opportunities and local value creation in coastal communities.
Long-term partnerships and reliable demand for collected plastic can help make collection activities more economically viable and strengthen the local structures behind them.
Environmental impact should not come at the expense of people.
We promote responsible working practices throughout our collection network through human-rights due diligence, training, protective equipment, defined safeguards and close collaboration with our local partners.
Where appropriate, we also work with independent third parties such as Control Union to support the assessment of social and human-rights conditions within our supply chains. This external perspective complements our own due-diligence processes and helps us identify potential risks, improve working conditions and establish good practices throughout our supply chains.
Plastic pollution particularly affects communities located close to coastlines and waterways, including communities whose livelihoods depend on healthy marine and coastal ecosystems.
By combining plastic recovery with local partnerships and community initiatives, we aim to strengthen the communities at the heart of our supply chains and contribute to locally rooted solutions to plastic pollution.
Long-term change requires more than collecting plastic.
Through workshops, educational activities and local partnerships, #tide® raises awareness of plastic pollution, recycling and responsible waste management. More than 6,500 people in countries confronted with ocean-bound plastic pollution have participated in our workshops and educational activities to date.
Our environmental impact starts with recovering ocean-bound plastic in coastal regions. But removing waste is only one part of the solution.
By connecting collection, recycling and demand for high-quality recycled materials, #tide® helps turn discarded plastic into a resource and contributes to more circular waste systems.
Plastic leakage is closely connected to gaps in waste collection, sorting and recycling systems.
Together with local partners, #tide® establishes collection and recycling pathways for ocean-bound plastic and connects recovered material with a market for recycled raw materials. Creating economic value for collected plastic can help support the structures needed to keep material in the recycling system.
Ocean-bound plastic is recovered from coastal regions where mismanaged plastic waste is at risk of reaching the marine environment.
Collection activities remove discarded plastic from communities and coastal environments while ensuring that suitable material is directed into recycling rather than remaining in the environment or becoming waste.
Collected plastics are sorted, processed and recycled into high-quality #tide® material that can be used in new products.
Keeping existing plastic in circulation reduces the need for virgin fossil-based raw materials and gives material that might otherwise become waste a new life.
Using recycled plastic can significantly reduce greenhouse-gas emissions compared with producing equivalent virgin plastic.
Life-cycle assessments of #tide® materials quantify the carbon footprint of our recycled PET and PP and the potential CO₂ savings achieved when they replace virgin resin.
Impact needs to be measurable.
We track material moving through our supply chains and combine supply-chain documentation, digital traceability, independent certification and impact data to understand where material comes from, how much is recovered and how it is processed.
Our cumulative impact is reported through metrics including kilograms of ocean-bound plastic processed, plastic-bottle equivalents and avoided CO₂ emissions.
Not every organization needs recycled plastic. But any organization can contribute to tackling plastic pollution.
Through our Road to 1 Billion Bottles impact programme, brands and organizations can directly contribute to #tide®'s environmental and social impact without purchasing #tide® material.
Their contribution supports the collection of ocean-bound plastic while helping fund the local structures and activities behind it. This allows partners to support measurable plastic recovery while contributing to broader impact in collection communities — from livelihoods and working conditions to education and stronger local waste-management systems.
The programme brings us closer to our long-term goal: recovering the equivalent of one billion plastic bottles of ocean-bound plastic and creating measurable environmental and social impact in the communities where we operate.
