Where others see waste, we see value. Which is why we give ocean-bound plastic a second life as a valuable resource.

We have developed an award winning method to upcycle ocean-bound plastic waste into new quality products such as carpets, furniture upholstery, packaging, watches, sport floors, consumer electronics or, thanks to Raining Rose Promos, lip balm tubes. Their All Natural lip balm is made in the USA with responsibly sourced global ingredients and leaves lips feeling amazing.

Your contribution is well appreciated. It allows us to continue working to solve the world's plastic pollution problem.

A global network of waste collection

#tide ocean material is sourced at various locations, with a main focus in Southeast Asia. This part of the world is particularly affected by ocean plastics, the World Economic Forum estimates that countries in Southeast Asia account for more than half of the world’s ocean plastic pollution. Coastal areas are densely populated, waste systems are often underdeveloped, and large rivers transport mismanaged waste toward the sea. Tourism, fisheries and seasonal monsoon rains further accelerate plastic leakage into the ocean.

That’s why #tide is focusing its efforts in countries such as Thailand and Malaysia: We can have the greatest impact where the problem is most urgent by stopping plastic from reaching the ocean, supporting local communities, and turning waste into high-quality recycled materials.

In Thailand for example, where the polypropylene for Raining Rose was collected and recycled, we collaborate with coastal communities and fishermen. They pick up plastic waste on islands, along coastlines and from uncontrolled landfills. This plastic waste is then brought to social enterprises, where our teams pay the waste collectors for the plastic by weight and type. All of this happens according to the standards set by the internationally renowned OBP certification.

The plastic is then sorted manually in the first instance and industrially in the second, with both steps being key to a successful recycling process.
